OKONJIMA BUSH CAMP
was nominated by "The British Guild of Travel Writers" for a Silver Otter Award!
At the annual Silver Otter Award function, held at the Savoy Hotel in London on the evening of the 10th Nov 2002 - Okonjima's Bush Camp, home of the AfriCat
Foundation, received a 'Highly Commended' certification and 2nd place.
The Silver Otter Award is usually given for the best new overseas project "that is not only
a big draw for tourists, but in some way improves the lives of people. The award is in the
shape of a small otter and over the years has come to represent originality, sustainability,
provide employment, ecotourism and the pre-eminence of the traveller over tourism."
Angela Humphery, following a visit to Okonjima, wrote an article for the British magazine,
The Lady, and nominated Okonjima Bush Camp for the award. The following is an extract
from her article:
"Here we are, up close and personal with one of Africa's big cats. Schmoozi, a male cheetah,
was sitting facing us 5m from our Land Rover, his tear-stained cheeks and huge golden
eyes just feet away.
