Celebrities that have been on Okonjima

The following celebrities have stayed with us on Okonjima:

Holly Hunter – During 1998, Ms. Hunter participated in a documentary on cheetahs, shot by Tigress Productions; Ms. Hunter spent 2 nights at Okonjima’s Main Camp, but insisted on sleeping in a Guide’s tent.

Jill Dando - BBC Travel and Anchor person (who sadly passed away a few years ago) - stayed at Okonjima’s Main Camp for the BBC travel show – 1998 and became one of Elvis’s biggest supporters after enjoying breakfast with him.

David Sheppard - stayed at Okonjima in 2000. Mr Sheppard was here on a ‘Save The Rhino Trust’ fund-raising tour with Blythe Lutit, the late CEO of Save the Rhino Trust, NAMIBIA. What an artist!

Pam St Clement of 'East Enders' fame, spent some well-deserved R&R at Okonjima’s Main Camp during 2000. A true lady she is!

Ian Wright - Football star and TV presenter - stayed at Okonjima’s Bush Camp in 2001 en-route to Bushmanland, where he filmed a documentary on the San People. Ian was not very comfortable with the snakes and predators of Africa, but he made up with the laughter he caused wherever he went!

Kate Humble & Ben Fogle - TV presenters of "Animal Park"  - filmed 'Animal Park in Africa' at AFRICAT, during 2004 and 2005; they were accommodated at OKONJIMA’S Main & Bush Camps. Kate has stayed a dedicated supporter of AfriCat and we try and stay in contact between that busy schedule of hers!

Steve Leonard - TV presenter - stayed at OKONJIMA during 2000.

Frankie Fredericks – Olympic 100m & 200m sprinter and silver medalist. Namibia’s most famous celebrity and a personal friend of Donna’s, has been on Okonjima a few times to challenge the other sprinter called the, ‘Cheetah’.

Linford Christie – Frankie’s personal friend, Olympic gold medalist and the only British man to win a gold medal in the 100m’s at all 4 major competitions: The Olympic games The World Championships, the Common Wealth Games, & the European Championships. Linford was in awe of the fastest mammal on earth but his daughter was more interested in getting dirty and playing all day in our sand-pit.

Michaela Strachan - 'Blue Peter' and other Children’s programmes, now lives in Cape Town but is still connected to TV - stayed at

OKONJIMA’S Main & Bush Camps during 1998, 2001 & 2003. She’s a ball of fire!!

Rolf Harris comedian, singer, artist, comedian and TV presenter. Rolf stayed at Okonjima Bush Camp for one night in Jan 2003. Rolf is a very special person.

Lorraine Kelly and family  – 'Morning TV' presenter, stayed at Okonjima’s Villa during April 2006 and at Bush Camp in June 2006. Lorraine Kelly is a patron of the AfriCat foundation and still one of our biggest fans!

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and family – spent quality time at Okonjima’s Villa for 4 nights during April 2006. A loving family and very well-behaved children. (see PRESS: tear-sheets)

Wesley Snipes and Family stayed at Bush Suite for 3 nights during November 2006. This family was a pleasure to have with us! They loved everything they did!

Ray Mears – TV presenter and wilderness, bush-craft and survivor expert. Ray spent 1 night with us at Okonjima’s Bush Camp and even had some survival advice for Wayne!

Joanna Lumley – International celebrity, humanitarian and one of the most incredible people we have ever met! Joanna spent 3 nights with us and the cats and stayed in our private Bush Suite in January 2009. Joanna is also a patron of the AfriCat foundation and a very special friend of the cats.

Chris Packham – UK Celebrity, international photographer, conservationist & TV presenter. Chris spent 8 nights with us in December 2009 and took the most amazing pictures of our cats we have ever seen! His love and passion for wildlife is commendable. Chris is also a patron of AfriCat and has stayed a good friend.
